With summer on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to clean your conservatory and get it ready for warm days and hosting guests.

Here, we share our top conservatory cleaning tips to help you keep your space fresh, bright, and well-maintained throughout the year.

1. Clean your conservatory regularly

You should try to thoroughly clean your conservatory twice a year to prevent a build up of dirt and grime. Spring is a great time to do this as you’re sure to be spending more time in your conservatory throughout the warmer months. You may want to schedule your second deep clean for the end of autumn to remove any fallen leaves and freshen it up before winter sets in.

2. Use warm soapy water

There may be numerous cleaning products on the market, but cleaning your conservatory really needs no more than some old-fashioned warm soapy water and a sponge or soft brush to get the job done. Harsh cleaning products and those that are spirit based can damage uPVC, so, if you feel that you would like to use a cleaning solution, stay clear of these.

3. Aim to clean on a cloudy day

Although cleaning your conservatory in warm sunshine might seem like a more enjoyable option, carrying out this task when the sun is shining can lead to water and cleaning solutions drying too quickly which will result in unsightly smears and smudges. Choose a cloudy day when you can be confident that your conservatory’s glass panels will dry slowly and stay looking clear and clean.

4. Avoid using a pressure washer

Pressure washers are ideal for cleaning certain surfaces, like paths and outdoor furniture, however, using a pressure washer on your conservatory can have a negative impact on joints and seals which may then become damaged. Cleaning your conservatory gently and carefully with soft materials is the best way to maintain its condition, so don’t reach for the pressure washer however tempting it may be.

5. Check for leaks

Cleaning your conservatory provides the perfect opportunity to spot leaks which you can identify and fix. If conservatory leaks are left too long, you may find that water comes in and causes damages to flooring, furniture, and any items you have in there. Even a slight leak can lead to mould and mildew, and prolonged leaks may result in issues with your electrics. With this in mind, it’s best to thoroughly check for damaged seals or leaks during the cleaning process. Damaged seals can also make your conservatory less energy efficient, especially if it leads into your home.

6. Identify signs of wear and damage

In addition to checking for leaks, you should keep an eye out for any signs of wear or damage while cleaning your conservatory. If you notice any cracks, chips, or other damage, you should seek to get these elements replaced quickly to avoid further issues. Should you feel that your conservatory is no longer fit for purpose, you may want to consider investing in a new one to keep maintenance and energy costs down.
